Carpets you’ll want to kick your shoes off for..

There is a new trend in the UK. It is becoming more and more common for people to ask guests to take off their shoes at the front door.

I’m not sure where this trend came from, or even when it began, but as an example, Winkworths Estate Agents have been carrying little ‘shower hats’ to put over your shoes when viewing houses for some time.

Some people will say something like “we’ve just had the carpets cleaned” while others might just pretend to be OCD clean types.

If you want to follow this trend, then you are going to want to make sure that you have the carpet worth taking off your Christian Louboutins for. At Luke Johnson Flooring we have a wide range of carpets which are so soft that you may never want to put your shoes on in the house again. Come to our Newbury Showroom and just feel how magical they feel, they will make your purr.
If you think that the shoeless trend is not for you, then you may want to consider our stunning range of strain resistant carpets – ideal if you accidentally trip over the dog with a full cup of coffee, or glass of red wine.

Flooring a kitchen

It’s the heart of the home. The first room you walk into after a hard day in the office, to put the kettle on or grab a glass of something refreshing.

When you are giving your kitchen a stunning makeover, it is easy to overlook the flooring when picking out your cabinets and appliances, however it is just as important to find the right flooring for your kitchen as the right cabinets.

With so many fads and trends in design magazines and on television makeover shows, making that vital decision can be overwhelming. At Luke Johnson Flooring, we pride ourselves with giving you the right advice for your lifestyle.

While it is ultimately down to personal taste, here are some important points to consider, before you splash out on an expensive mistake.

  1. Avoid fads. Polished concrete or cork may sound great in 2016, however kitchens are long term investment so make sure that whatever you choose will stand the test of time.
  2. Underfloor heating. If you intend to use underfloor heading in your new kitchen then you need to be careful what type of material you put on your floor. Some materials and some flooring adhesives are heat sensitive. You do not want your kitchen floor to look like this?

  3. No underfloor heating. Before you splash out on ceramic tiles, for example, remember that they will be very cold underfoot in the winter. They do not retain heat well so your kitchen floor may feel colder from late autumn to mid spring. That is a long time to need to wear slippers at breakfast!
  4. Accidents happen! Even in the tidiest of homes, a kitchen is a place where accidents happen. There will always be spills, splashes and little bits which slip off the kitchen counter onto the floor, so you must choose a flooring which is mop-friendly.

  5. Fitting Professional Certification – It is always wise to look for the flooring manufacturer’s “accredited installer” logo to avoid any nasty surprises when choosing your kitchen floor.

Choices

Vinyl has come a long way since it first arrived in the UK in the 60s. Once drab and uninspired, now the new vinyls come in a glorious range of true to nature finishes from woods to natural stone. Comfy under foot, it is also hygienic and ideal for people with allergies.

Designer Flair – If you want to invest in a statement floor with all the benefits of vinyl then Karndean is the way to go. It exceptionally hard wearing and has a real wow-factor.

Wood or Laminate flooring – This is not recommended on kitchen floors as, although it may look good on day 1 the frequent changes in temperature and humidity could impact on the longevity of the product.

We stock a wide variety of floor coverings which are ideal for kitchens big and small, including some specially developed engineered wood flooring which is kitchen friendly so please ask the Luke Johnson Flooring team, we are always happy to help.
